Course FAQ

Yes, it is absolutely fine to bring your young baby. As parents ourselves we understand that when they are little or you are breastfeeding frequently it is sometimes hard to find someone you can leave them with. However, if alternate care is available then we would recommend coming baby free so that you can attend better to the course information.

If alternate care is not available and the baby is crawling or beyond then we would encourage one parent to attend one date and the second parent to attend another date. The couple discount price will still apply even though the two parents will attend two separate sessions. To book this way simply book for one couple for the first course date and then email that you would like the second parent to attend an alternate date.

Our courses are also breastfeeding friendly as we don't want you to miss out on information by you feeling you have to leave the room whilst breastfeeding.

Public courses are regularly held in Melbourne and Tasmania. Our parent first aid courses have been endorsed by multiple maternity hospitals and we regularly conduct courses in these hospitals as well as a variety of community venues including maternal health centres. Our public courses are conducted on weekends only and the Premium course is conducted at each of these public courses.

Public Courses

Payment will be made via credit card at the time of booking into a public course using the online event booking system. If you would prefer to pay via EFT please detail your booking request via email to jo@childrevive.com.au. Payment via EFT is required within 7 days of booking.

If notice is provided:

  • (a) At least 7 days prior to the course date a full refund will be provided (minus booking fee $0.50) or an alternate course date will be offered.
  • (b) At least 24 hours from the course start time and up to 7 days prior to the course an alternate course date will be offered.
  • (c) Less than 24 hours from the course start time then it will be upon the discretion of the Manager as to whether an alternate course date will be provided, and if so, which date/s will be offered as a option.

When an alternate course date is booked for points (b) and (c) above and a cancellation request is received - again with less than 3 days notice from the course date - then no further rebooking or refund will be provided.

Courses run with a minimum of 8 to 10 people (dependent upon course location and date). All 3 course length options are available 7 days/week. There is no real maximum for the group because we can provide a second trainer (dependent on availability) to assist if the group is too large. Often the group size is determined by the space available for the course as every participant will need a seat as well as some spare floor and/or table bench space for the practical skills training using the manikins. Private courses are normally held in the home of one of group members or a local community venue. Your local council, library or maternal and child centre are often good places to contact in regard to available community venues.

A confirmation email will be sent to the course host once all course details have been finalised. We aim for the individuals members of the group to make their own payment.

This booking confirmation email will outline the payment options which will include one or more of the following options:

Pay by Bank Transfer: Account Name: Child Revive First Aid. BSB: 193 879. Account No: 473979520. Please insert client name and course date (e.g. Jo Smith 23Feb2016) as reference.

Pay at Course by a) Cash, or b) Credit Card (Visa and MasterCard only with a 2% surcharge per transaction) - this option may not be available for certain groups.

The payment at course option may not be available for certain groups. This will be advised upon booking the course date.

We normally conduct our parent first aid courses so that they are not workplace accredited because we want our course to focus on baby and child related emergencies only without having to include adult emergency topics into the course which would in turn increase the duration of the courses and the fees. It would also require parents to complete comprehensive enrolment forms and assessment tasks (both written and practical). Currently there is no workplace accredited course that is specific for only infant and child related emergencies.

Please note that the standard workplace accredited first aid certificate required by employers is the Provide First Aid course HLTAID003 which requires approximately 6 hours of class time with an additional 2-3 hours of pre-course online learning. We are registered to provide this and all other workplace accredited first aid courses and so if you would like to complete this course please email info@childrevive.com.au. However, we currently only conduct this course for private groups with a minimum of 8 participants. The certificate for this is valid for 3 years in the workplace however it is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council to update the CPR unit every 12 months.

For parents wanting information and skills in how to care for their own children in an emergency a workplace accredited course certificate is not necessary. You are best to seek out an experienced paramedic or paediatric nurse trainer who is able to relate their own first-hand experience and is current in their field of expertise. Paediatric emergency is a specialised area and unfortunately, many first aid providers have their courses conducted by only first aiders who have no actual experience in dealing with sick children.

Upon request you can receive an electronic statement of attendance following the course. This request should ideally be made when booking the course. For anyone who completes a workplace accredited course they should receive their statement of attainment certificate within 5-10 business days. Click Workplace First Aid.

These certificates are valid for the following duration:

HLTAID001 Provide CPR - 12 months (this is the annual CPR update for the HLTAID003/004 courses)

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid - 3 years (with annual CPR update HLTAID001)

HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency Response in an Education and Care Setting - 3 years (with annual CPR update HLTAID001)

10313NAT Anaphylaxis Awareness - 3 years (no annual update)

10392NAT Emergency Asthma Management - 3 years (no annual update)

Yes, a gift certificate can be used at any of our courses.
